The Photon Hoody is probably single most versatile bit of gear that I own. It is a bit like a very warm fleece, with the added benefit of being extremely light weight, highly packable and very wind resistant. The last point alone makes this worth owning. Whilst fleece tends to loose a lot of warmth in a breeze, the multi-layer construction of the Photon (and similar synthetic fill jackets) retains a huge amount of warmth in the wind. I’ve used this jacket in July on highland lochs, and in January blizzards on munros and it’s simply fantastic. It’s light and packable enough that I often lash it onto the back of my chest pack whilst river fishing in the spring and autumn.
I particularly like the hood, which is generous and very snuggly. Lash it onto your noggin and a lovely feeling of protection envelopes the senses. It’s really nice to know that if it gets a little nippy there is instant warmth waiting, and you hardly even noticed you were carrying it. The final killer benefit is that it will keep you warm even if it gets damp. If you have ever been fishing with me, well, that’s important. This jacket comes unreservedly recommended from me, but if you’re still not convinced..
